Sadhana Course - 9/25, 10/2, 10/16, 10/30, 11/13, 12/4 from 1:30 - 3:30
Sadhana, means Spiritual practice or discipline performed regularly for the attainment of The Inner Experience or self-realization. The aspirant is a Sadhaka. In America, the Yoga practice is defined by the work “done on the mat”. True Yoga practice is a complete lifestyle which is the Sadhana. This work is done throughout a lifetime on a daily basis. That said we are left to wonder, “What does this mean? How do I do this?” In the Sadhana Course we will develop a Sadhana practice designed specifically for you! The practice will include a regular asana (posture) practice, pranayama (breath exercises), and meditation. In addition to this foundation of practices, we will focus on the Yoga Sutras set forth by Sri Patanjali, mantra chanting, Spiritual text, and diet. Together we will cultivate a motivation for the practice that best suits you and upholds a Yogic lifestyle! You will be supported by the instructor and offered ideas and suggestions about how and when to introduce different practices throughout the day. Opening yourself to a Sadhana practice is a challenge, indeed, but it will forever change your life in a positive way! The last part of the year is an auspicious time and is the perfect time to begin such a practice because it allows for a fresh start at the beginning of the New Year! If you are a newer teacher, this course is great for a teacher looking to extend your philosophical and practical knowledge.
The group will meet six times. Dates are 9/25/10, 10/2/10, 10/16/10, 10/30/10, 11/13/10 and 12/4/10. All meetings will be two hours in length from 1:30 - 3:30 PM. Our discussions and “lectures” will include mantras, mala beads and their proper use, Spiritual text discussion (Bhagadva Gita, Dhammapada, Bible, Talmud, Koran, etc. The student chooses what is the best fit for him/her), pranayama practices, Shatkarma practices (cleansing), various styles of meditation, and Satsang (sharing of Yogic philosophy and it’s application to daily life). Asana practices will be at the studio during regular class times or at home. After course completion, we would like to maintain informal meetings to keep the motivation for change moving forward. Yoga is all about creating a community and being with like-minded people!
Investment:
$300 includes unlimited yoga class pass for 8 weeks but is without supplies (you provide the text, mala beads and meditation cushion)
$425 includes unlimited yoga class pass for 8 weeks with Spiritual text of your choosing, handmade meditation cushion (constructed by a yogini friend specifically for Nishkama Yoga), and mala beads.
